1Hood Media is a collective of socially conscious artists and activists who utilize art as a means of raising awareness about social justice matters affecting people around the world. 1Hood envisions a world where every person is ensured justice and has an opportunity to achieve their fullest potential and contribute to all aspects of life. Our mission is to build liberated communities through art, education, and social justice. 

We offer performance, written, and visual art to connect communities and amplify messages along with workshops, curriculum consultation, media literacy training, conflict resolution, music production, grant writing, photography, and videography through programs like Artivist Academy and Select. Further, we offer consultation to artists seeking to establish a fruitful independent career and organizations that wish to establish a culture of equity and activism. In addition, We offer youth-based cultural and media literacy programming like 1Hood Media Academy, our core program that provides youth based training in media literacy and the creation of media and  We Keep Us Safe, a campaign to address & prevent violence in our communities led by Black creatives ages 16-26.  Through our civic engagement work, we conduct robust voter outreach and awareness efforts through events like People, Politics, and Power, text-banking, and social media. Media is core to what we do including podcasts like Brunch with a Black Man, a mental health podcast focused on telling stories of Black men, and BlackPittsburgh.com, a website featuring news written by and for Black Pittsburghers, help eliminate the cultural and social hurdles that can block access to news and services for the Black community.  Our work takes many forms, all grounded in our five pillars of engagement: Arts and Culture, Media, Education, Activism, Civic Engagement. Donor Relations Coordinator

1Hood Media Academy seeks a donor relations coordinator to join our Development Team. This position will report to and work closely with the Director of Development to build, manage, and implement giving strategies that engage values-aligned donors who want to support and sustain our work. 

The ideal candidate has great communication skills (written and verbal), a warm demeanor who can build and maintain relationships with many different people including donors, partners, and 1Hood staff, an active and empathetic listener, as curious to learn as you are to share your skills and experiences, impeccable attention to detail, holds themselves accountable and isn’t afraid to ask for help, believes in a community-centric fundraising approach, our organizational values, and philanthropic partner values, and isn’t afraid to challenge the current philanthropic status quo. They also believe in the potential for social change through strengthening the capacity of individuals and communities to advocate on their own behalf. 


Job Responsibilities

  • Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not strictly limited to:

  • Proactively develop and manage intentional cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies to build relationships with current and potential donors. 

  • Manage a portfolio of individual and corporate donors and prospects with the goal of understanding how and why they give, maintaining or increasing their gift level and/or frequency, and identifying ways to partner beyond money. 

  • Lead two to four fundraising and engagement campaigns annually with the support and guidance of the Director of Development including an annual recurring donor campaign, Give Big Pittsburgh/Giving Tuesday, and donor/partner spotlight). 

  • Creates warm and engaging donor communications including acknowledgement emails, fundraising campaign messaging for email and social media, and other projects as assigned.

  • Assists with the creation and finalization of segmented donor lists for prospect research, fundraising campaigns, events, and other intentional engagement. 

  • With support from the Director of Development, leads CRM data entry (currently Salesforce) including recording and acknowledging gifts and grants promptly, documenting donor interactions, and reporting on fundraising campaigns. Maintains the accuracy and integrity of databases by ensuring that all information is kept current and up to date.

  • Provide feedback and suggestions for process improvements. 

  • Track and report the status of activities both internally to 1Hood staff and board and externally to partners, funders, and the community as needed.

  • Assists in scheduling meetings with prospective funders and donors.

  • Provides support to staff, committees, and volunteers during fundraising campaigns, special events, and programmatic events like Fridays on Deck, Artivist Academy, People, Politics, and Power, and others.  

  • In coordination with founders and Director of Development, develop relationships with allies and other organizations to extend 1Hood’s network of supporters. 

  • Participate in weekly staff meetings and 1Hood sponsored initiatives.

  • Work with a range of stakeholders, including agency heads, local officials, individuals, community leaders, members, grassroots groups, and other advocates to support 1Hood fundraising initiatives.

  • Represent 1Hood in task forces, working groups, and coalitions.

  • Prepare and deliver presentations and testimony to support advocacy efforts as requested.

  • Exhibits understanding and internalization of1Hood’s values; act with integrity, art is essential, be authentic, be civically engaged, be culturally competent, be of service, rooted in community, steeped in Blackness

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED; Associate degree preferred.

  • Two-years related experience and knowledge of the principles and practices of non-profit fundraising activities including gift entry, database administration and records management, and developing and cultivating donor relationships. Ideal candidates will have experience managing fundraising campaigns and a portfolio of donors. 

  • Proficient in Google Drive (Docs, Sheets, Forms, etc.). Experience using SalesForce or other donor CRMs, Canva, and Basecamp, or proven ability to learn.

  • Demonstrated commitment to social and racial justice.

  • Experience working effectively and connecting with diverse populations and valuing differences of race, ethnicity, age, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, ability, and socio-economic circumstances.

  • Commitment to and experience with working in close partnership with funders and community members.

  • Critical thinking skills with an ability to identify, collect, and interpret relevant data for storytelling, funder and partner reports, with an emphasis on social justice and utilizing data as a narrative. 

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain key contacts among a diverse range of stakeholders.

  • Proven record of teamwork and collaborative engagement with colleagues across departments and functions.

  • Ability to work independently and keep organized in a fast-paced environment, manage several projects simultaneously, and adjust strategy to frequently changing demands.

  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information clearly and concisely for various audiences, including the public, the media, and policymakers.

  • Has the ability and desire to work extremely flexible work hours including some late nights, holidays, and weekends.

  • Displays exceptional time-management and organizational skills as needed for meeting deadlines.

  • Demonstrates a professional demeanor whether speaking to others in person, over the phone, via email, or through letters.

  • Works well alone as well as under direct supervision.

Work Remotely: Yes, with the ability to meet in-office (day is flexible, Tuesday afternoons are ideal) and/or attend 1Hood programs/events twice a month to get to know staff and see 1Hood’s mission in action.

Program Development Intern

Further, we offer consultation to artists seeking to establish a fruitful independent career and organizations that wish to establish a culture of equity and activism. In addition, 1Hood Media Academy provides youth-based training in media literacy and the creation of media. Focused on social justice and training arts entrepreneurs, the Academy provides a platform for artists to tell their own stories and provides avenues for young people to utilize their own gifts and talents to secure financial sustainability. 1Hood Media seeks a passionate and driven intern for a long-term commitment to support grassroots initiatives and is dedicated to the organizational mission. This is an extraordinary opportunity to gain mentorship, practical/business operational, hands-on professional development, community engagement, logistical/strategic planning, and grant-writing experience. 

Further, this internship provides a unique opportunity to shadow 1Hood’s talented team in all areas of 1Hood’s operations, and a “bird’s-eye view” into the impact of coordinated community response and resource alignment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Learn about 1Hood’s mission, brand, community support, organization goals and other aspects of our services; collaborate with various departments to develop/support brand strategies to drive organizational value

  • Support and collaborate with the team in initiatives and projects, including administrative tasks, research, policy review, reporting, events, marketing, advocacy and outreach; other operational tasks upon as needed to further 1Hood’s mission

  • Plan and assist with 1Hood events; actively engage with community partners, members, and participants

  • Conduct research and investigate new grant sources, key industry trends and competitive insights

  • Analyze data to identify trends and collaborate with the team to propose new channels and refine current strategies

  • Support the team in daily marketing and administrative tasks; prepare and organize marketing materials for events and meetings

  • Actively participate in 1Hood’s team meetings and collaborate with other team members

  • Other duties as assigned to support leadership and the team in 1Hood’s programming 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited Undergrad/Grad college or university program Preferred Major(s): Economic Development, Urban Studies, Business Administration, Marketing, Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Social Work or similar with a decisive career path and trajectory

  • Strong customer service acumen; event support experience preferred

  • Strong organizational, writing and communication skills (for contacting partners/guests with programs updates, grant-writing, marketing/content, and instructional materials)

  • Familiarity with Google Workspace,  Microsoft Office (Excel, Word & PowerPoint), and social media acumen (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)

  • Able to work on-site in Pittsburgh, with access to reliable transportation

  • A sound commitment to 1Hood Media’s mission to challenge inequality; to unify and build liberated communities through programmatic art, education, social justice, and advocacy
