Jasiri X is Italy Bound After Being Accepted into the Prestigious International Bellagio Residency Program

Hip-hop artivist and 1Hood CEO, Jasiri X, has been accepted into the prestigious Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center Residency Program in Italy. Jasiri X will be participating the the Arts & Arts Literacy program which welcomes composers, fiction and non-fiction writers, playwrights, video/filmmakers, dancers, musicians, and visual artists from August 22nd until September 18th.

During the month-long residency, he will be developing his project EYE-KHAN-X: An Original Hip-Hop Soundtrack to the 1925 Silent Film Classic, Body and Soul. "I'm extremely honored to be selected for the Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center Residency Program. The Arts and Literacy Arts Residency has featured the likes of legendary poet Maya Angelou and renowned author Michael Ondaatje. To be invited to Italy and to have the luxury of spending the next month to work on my project is a dream come true," says Jasiri.

The Bellagio Center Residency Program offers changemakers, artists, policymakers and academics a “serene setting conducive to focused, goal-oriented work, and the unparalleled opportunity to establish new connections with fellow residents from a wide array of backgrounds, disciplines, and geographies.” Their record of supporting and cultivating innovators has spanned multiple generations. Boasting an extensive and diverse roster of participants,  the foundation’s mission is the cultivate those whose work focuses on humanity and relating social justice issues.
